History of Olmos Basin Park
The Civil Works Administration established a latrine and wading pool way back in 1934 in the Olmos Creek floodplain. The area was named Franklin Fields by the City Council of San Antonio in 1940 to honour President Franklin Roosevelt.
Then, the site was developed as a natural forest area. It includes different recreation facilities, different fields and conservation and preservation purposes. In July 1940, the park received federal funds when it was designated as Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp. Visit Our Website
The CCC Company 3804 transferred to Franklin Fields to start work in August 1940. They cut underbrush, installed picnic units, built roads and cleared bridle paths. The site has later renamed the park into Olmos Basin Park.
