Picking up your life and moving to a new city is stressful. The multitude of utility options for your new home can be overwhelming. Now that you’re settling into Woodbridge, this guide will help you navigate the different choices and get your household set up.
The Basics

Water & Sewer
The Prince William County Service Authority (PWCSA)Woodbridge provides water and sewer services to all of Prince William County, including Woodbridge. If you’re new to the area, you’ll need to set up new service by calling the PWCSA at (703) 335-7950 Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, or by going online to their website.
Allow for a minimum of 1-2 days turnaround time when calling to set up your service. You’ll be charged a $35.00 application fee on your first bill.
If you’re renting, you’ll need to have the property owner complete an Owner Authorization Form. The PWCSA also charges tenants a $250.00 advance payment which gets applied to your final bill.
Electricity
Two prominent providers here are Dominion Energy and the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC). Your ability to access a particular company’s service will vary depending on your specific location.
To start service with Dominion Energy register online or contact customer service at 866-366-4357. Dominion charges a $15.00 connection fee to begin your service. They also may require a security deposit if you’re a new customer.
You can apply for service with NOVEC online. They charge a $1.00 co-op fee and a $40.00 connection fee. You may also be required to pay a $300.00 security deposit. NOVEC may refund the deposit after your account has been in good standing for 12 consecutive months.
Natural Gas
Columbia Gas and Washington Gas are two options for natural gas service in Woodbridge.
Call 1-800-543-8911 Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm or Saturdays from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm to start service with Columbia Gas. You can also check availability and find out more about their services by heading over to their website.
To find out more about Washington Gas, give them a call at 703-750-1000 or 800-752-7520, or check out their online form to get started. Service initiation fees vary, ranging from about $15.00 if gas is already flowing to $60.00 if it’s not.
Regardless of the service you choose, there may be additional costs for line installation depending on the infrastructure already in place for your neighborhood and residence.
Garbage Collection
Prince William County assesses a flat solid waste fee as a part of your property tax bill. The cost ranges from $47.00-$70.00 depending on the type of residence.
Residents must hire a private refuse hauler for trash collection services. Hiring may be done individually or through a homeowner’s association. Residents can also choose to haul their trash to collection facilities. Private refuse haulers must also provide recycling services, as recycling is mandatory for residents and businesses in Prince William County.
